New Girl: See Cece Run from Her Feelings
Everyone finally finds out about Schmidt and Cece, which opens a can of uncomfortable truth for all the roommates.
Water Slide
The Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) hookup has been a large recurring storyline for episodes now. But New Girl wisely realized that the secret relationship plot could only be played for laughs for so long. So in one episode all the remaining characters find out, thanks to Nick’s (Jake M. Johnson) back sweat under pressure.
Judgmental Jess?
This was also the first episode in a long time to tackle the friendship between Cece and Jess (Zooey Deschanel). We’ve seen flashes of their friendship before, but Jess’ realization that Cece was keeping this huge secret threw her for a tailspin. Interestingly, Cece tells Jess that she keeps secrets because Jess can be kind of judgmental, which honestly doesn’t jive with the show’s previous outings accusing Jess of naively seeing the best in people at all times. Jess was formerly so committed to seeing the best in people that she almost went through with a threesome!
Professor Schmidt
Meanwhile, Nick is taking a crash course in Douchebag 101 from Professor Schmidt after finding he’s unable to love and leave the college girls he’s been sleeping with. When two girls show up at the same time, however, all the training goes out the window. Winston (Lamorne Morris) has to step up and save the day with Theodore K. Mullens, Nick’s over-dramatic lover on the “down low.” By episode’s end, Nick finally gets the hang of being a douchebag, sprouting off some nonsense that would sound at home on an MTV reality show.
Secret Revealed
Jess is having a pretty traumatic time this week, between her 10K-run blood-filled shoes and finding out the roommates think of her while flying solo — sometimes even with raccoon hands, digging through garbage. (We’re finding out a lot of weird things about Winston recently aren’t we?) Jess finally puts the pieces together when she sees Schmidt’s corny “See Cece Run” shirt. She realizes Cece has actual feelings for Schmidt and is sworn to secrecy, finally getting the honesty she craved all along.
